Hi to all..
This is our very first post so we are quite excited about it. Afsin and I have been discussing on this for a long time what to do and how to do and finally we pulled the trigger. It’s been a little tricky to setup wordpress and get it running though. I had no idea what was wordpress and than after installation there was some bugs with the template which I have been try to figure out for the last couple days. Anyway, finally it seems to be working ok now.
To begin with, english is not our native language so don’t be much critical about mistakes in our text if any.
So what will be this blog all about ?
Afsin and I met in 2007 summer via our common friend, Ayson. Within first days, we discovered our common interests and photography was on the top of the list. Soon we started to go out in weekends with our cameras and just walk around the city, just taking random pictures and mostly talking about photography but that soon became kind of monotonous for us ( even more so for Ayson as he has no interest in photography ). That was when this blog idea came out when we were discussing about what to focus on. We said why not make a blog about Azerbaijan, our experiences in this country and mix that with photography. So within this blog, we will try to share with you mostly what is happening, traditions, places and highlights mostly in Baku. We will try to cover other regions as well when we have the opportunity to travel and also we will share with you topics and links about photography we come across that inspires us and we are sure will inspire you as well if you have the interest in photography. By the way, we are still publishing and will continue to publish our photo works in different photo community sites. You can have a look at them here ( Gokce, Afsin ).
Unfortunately, there is not much action happening in Baku about photography. There are no classes in schools or any courses about photography as we know of and there are no organizations as well. Just couple exhibitions within a year and most probably you never get to know them as they are announced in very limited media. However, time to time we will try to get in contact with the local photographers ( quite a few there ) and showcase their work. We have some other ideas as well but we will talk about them later.
There will be more articles about Baku and Azerbaijan in our next posts to give you an further idea as we guess this country is not much familiar to most of people particularly in west Europe and US. But along with middle east countries, this CIS countries is now booming economically after they declared their independence from Soviet Union in 1991. There are many changes happening year after year with the income from their natural sources such as oil and gas. Hopefully, photography will evolve as well with time.
We hope you will enjoy the blog. We are looking forward for your comments and suggestions.
